“This put a strain on our relationship to the extent that I contemplated leaving my home several times.
”
This story has been edited for length and clarity.
Earlier in our marriage, there were times I felt a disconnect. Jay wasn't always telling me where he was or where he was going. He wouldn't check on me when I wasn't home. There wasn't much outward care shown. He would only help when he felt like it. There were times I was sick, and if he wasn't in the mood, he wouldn't lift a finger. This put a strain on our relationship to the extent that I contemplated leaving my home several times. It was frustrating and tiring.
The Turning Point
I prayed. I hoped. I held onto God and spoke to Him calmly. Gradually, he started to change, to God's glory. We are not totally there yet, but we are much better than where we were.
Where We Are Now
We are far better than how we started. We speak to one another calmly, in love. Though it's not been easy, I've realized that the first impulsive reaction of claiming rights and assuming your partner should see and understand in the same way you do doesn't always end well.
Another important thing is to NEVER take God out of anything, no matter how little you think that issue is.
