“Looking back, I think she is correct in a way.
”
This story has been edited for length and clarity.
There has been a bit of friction between my wife and me in how we communicate. She told me that I communicate with a veil, meaning I anticipate a certain response when speaking with her. If the actual response doesn't match what I expected, I oppose it. Looking back, I think she is correct in a way.
The Turning Point
On noticing this, I realized I had to pay more attention to her feedback. I needed to learn to communicate with an open mind, showing that I care about her response and appreciate her thoughts.
Where We Are Now
We are getting better, and I can say we've made tremendous progress in that regard.
If you're facing something like this, here's my advice: listen to your spouse and learn how they want to be communicated with. Also, have a settled conviction in your mind that your spouse loves you and wants the progress of your relationship.
